Denied access to enter Tibet in 2009, “Four Rivers (Chu-Bzhi)” confronts the filmmakers’ own peculiarity and displacement from his homeland through landscapes not seen. Filmed remotely inside Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) “Four Rivers” chronicles the beauty and brutality of nature and the rapidly evolving development projects taking place on the plateau along the Brahmaputra, Indus, Sutlej and Karnali Rivers. The filmmaker weaves personal memory with passages from an 1920’s travelogue written by Swami Pranavananda who made pilgrimage to Kailash Mansarovar.
