KONTORA
Guided by her grandfather’s WWII diary, Sora searches for a mysterious trove in the wilderness outside her hometown. Meanwhile, a mysterious, mute and backwards-walking homeless man wanders into town. Is he the catalyst to restore Sora’s shattered relationship with her father? Kontora appropriates the trope of the schoolgirl—so common in Japanese films—to create a character who stands apart from conventional love story clichés. In a cinematic age of strong primary colours, the film’s subdued palette renders it both soft and affectionate.
