9th November Tuesday – 6:30 pm | Live event on Zoom, registration required
Bedatri Choudhury, Managing Editor of Documentary magazine, engages with filmmakers Anam Abbas, Rintu Thomas and Sushmit Ghosh about their career-long dedication to documenting grassroots activism. Their documentaries suggest the possibility of incremental change forged by actions taking place in small, unlikely places, and use film’s creative potential as an extension of grassroots movements. The conversation revolves around their filmmaking strategies and philosophical concerns, and the challenges they face in navigating the ethics of empathy and trust that need to be inherent in a practice that involves communities standing on the crux of life-altering change and possible harm. They are joined by feminist organiser and political worker Tooba Syed, who is also an organiser of the Aurat Azadi March since 2018.
